Conquering The Wireless World The Age Of M-Commerce
"Today. Americans are less enthusiastic about mobile phones, m-commerce, and the wireless Internet than are the Japanese, Europeans, and the Chinese. In fact only 33 percent of Americans have cell phones versus up to 90 percent in some European countries. The book proposes a tried-and-true marketing approach for conquering the wireless world that will take Americans and oth- ers into the age of m-commerce.
About two years ago, business associates in Japan and Europe showed me the possibilities of wireless technology from NTT DoCoMo and GSM. Then several trips to China, Hong Kong and Singapore convinced me of the wide use of and the possibilities for mobile phones throughout East Asia. Moreover, my colleagues at DePaul University, Albert Muñiz and Zafar Iqbal, and my good friend at Northwestern University, Philip Kotler, corroborated my gut feeling that marketing's most important victory in the 21st century will be to turn Americans and others into consumers of m-commerce. Lastly, several meet- ings among venture capitalists at First Tuesday confirmed that money could be made through wireless when marketers target market segments, position products, and carry out a carefully crafted 4 Ps marketing strategy.
Recently, Steve Tendon flew from Sweden to Chicago because he had heard about my wireless manuscript. He read it, made important suggestions, and pronounced the book helpful for his own work in Europe."
