Microprogramming Primer
"The objective of this book is to present an introduction to microprogramming and emulation, and to clarify the complex relationships among programs. computers, and modern methods of implementation It is assumed that the basic notions of computers, of programming languages, of operating systems and language processors, and of programming are known to most readers either through an introductory computer science course or through practical experience Also, most readers would benefit from a second computer science course on computer organization, although the latter is not an explicit re- quirement.
The book is designed to provide the reader with three kinds of knowledge: (1) an introduction to microprogramming concepts, (2) actual experience in writing microprograms, and (3) principles of emulation. The subject matter is presented through introductory textual material, through actual examples. and through translator and simulator systems that allow the student to write microprograms and to execute them on any computer system with FORTRAN language facilities."
